Sublimation

Sublimation is a digital printing process that uses heat and pressure to transfer dye directly into the surface of a product. Instead of sitting on top, the ink becomes part of the material itself — resulting in vibrant color with no heavy or raised feel.

This process works best on high-percentage polyester fabrics and light-colored materials, as sublimation does not print white ink. Any white areas in a design will show through as the color of the item underneath. Because of this, sublimation is often used on light apparel or creatively paired with techniques like bleach patterns to allow white details to shine.

When white details are needed on darker materials, special methods can be used — such as sublimation-compatible vinyl or glitter HTV — which adds materials and time to the process and may increase cost. I’ll always walk through options with you to find the best solution for your design.

Sublimation is a favorite technique for:

Apparel that needs to feel lightweight and breathable

Bright, detailed, full-color designs

Items meant to be worn or used often

Tumblers, mugs, keychains, and other sublimation-friendly products

Because the dye bonds permanently with the material, sublimated designs won’t crack, peel, or fade, and they typically outlast traditional vinyl applications. It’s a beautiful option when you want bold color, fine detail, and a soft, effortless finish.
